laugh and learn puppy

I have a 12wk baby & a 3 & 4 yr old….I’ve been thinking about getting a dog for a few years now but I’ve been putting it off til the right time. I’ve never had a dog b4,,,, so, I have had my 10 wk old lab for 3 nights now and 2b honest I’m startin 2 wonder if we’re gona keep him, I just don’t have the time to toilet train him. I have plenty of time to walk him when he’s completed his jabs (2 school runs of an hour each a day & plenty of forest walks, parks ect) but I can’t take him out first & last thing coz I’m a single parent. So he needs to learn to go in one place in the garden which I can easily keep clean every day coz I’m a bit worrried about germs… both of my kids are thumb suckers… at the mo he does go out 2 do his biz outside in the garden but I was surprised 2 c that he treads in it after?! daft animal! So I am worried that he’ll track the germs all over the place… I wanted to have like a “dog toilet” for him don’t laugh! Has anyone got any ideas please!!! sacha xxx
Bad name 2 single parents? lol whatever. So, to explain a bit more, the door in my kitchen leads out to a little back porch and the back door to my back garden. He’s been going outsite to go to the loo, mainly in 1 corner of the garden (my garden is patio & gravel which makes it easier) Till today I’ve had a stairgate to my back door so he has the porch & the run of the garden all day. Then when the kids go 2 bed at 6, the gate is opened & he can come in to spend time with me, I take him for a game of fetch then he sits on my lap while I read. I go up to bed about 9 and I leave him in the kitchen with the stairgate & back door open so he goes out to use the garden for his toilet. I’ve just read all my feedback (thanx evry1 lol) and I’ve now moved him into the kitchen full time with a puppy pad on the floor so I can watch him (i spend half my life in the kitchen anyway lol) I’ve put a handful of treats on the side, baby is asleep & I’m ready & waiting lol
so, i thought I’ll keep him in the kitchen until he’s trained to pads, keep putting him on there and sayin ‘go potty’ and when e goes then give him lotsa praise & a treat. When e’s got the hang of it I’ll slowly move the pads outside. Then when e’s trained to pads e can come in the rest of the house. I’ll keep to the evening routine the same as it is now. the vet sez i can’t take im out till a week after his 2nd jab, so i cant take him 4 a walk for 3 wks yet. so is my plan gonna work?
Hi it’s me again. Just wanted to say that I built my own Dog Toilet, sounds so daft but it’s great & it works- I covered a large piece of wood with heavy plastic & stapled it on & laid this on the garden. I sunk 4 posts in2 the soil at each corner & screwed a piece of wood onto the top of the posts on each corner (to keep the rain off). I’ve been taking Angel out there loads & he’s really got the hang of it !!! It’s really easy to clean, I just scoop & mop heheh He can’t come out for walks yet coz he hasn’t finished his vacc’s so when we go out I’ve been leaving the back door open & he just goes out & uses his throne & comes back in heehee The only time he has an accident in the house is if I’ve left the door closed so he obviously can’t hold it yet but he’d rather go outside. What a fab pup :D

I have a puppy I got when he was about 10 weeks old. I have 3 issues with him that I need addressed. Please help of you’re a dog expert.

#1- My dog barks incessantly in any situation where he’s not getting
his way…(he wants people food you’re eating, he wants off a leash
to play with other dogs, he wants out of his crate, etc.) And I
hear the same thing from every self-proclaimed “dog expert” I’ve
asked about it; “barking is a learned behavior for dogs, and make
sure you’re not reenforcing it by rewarding his barking”. The only
problem with that, is he’s barked like crazy since the day I got him
at 10 weeks old, and 2ndly, I GO OUT OF MY WAY to NOT reward
the behavior by giving him his way, paying extra attention to him
when he does it, etc….any second opinions?

#2- My dog’s breed is a Blue Lacy…for those unfamiliar with the breed,
Blue Lacy’s males are suppose to get between about 45 and 55
pounds. Well, he’s almost 4 months, and he’s already 33 pounds,
and my vet is laughing at the notion a puppy that size will only get
to 55 pounds. What is a general ratio or means of determining how
big your puppy will end up based on age vs. weight?

#3- My dog got a rabies vaccine, and a few days after, I noticed he
has a circular rasied bump about the size of a quarter underneath
his fur at the site of the injection. My vet says it’s a fairly common
reaction, and is likely to go down in a matter of a few weeks to a
few months, but I sure would feel better if someone ELSE could
confirm that is true.

laugh and learn puppy

I’m 13 years old and I’m getting a puppy in 7 weeks time. It is a boxer puppy. We haven’t prepared or anything yet because we have over almost 2m to do so but I feel like now is the best time to get ready for him because it will be hectic when i get him. What can I do to prepare? I havent got anything ready at the moment so what should i buy for Him? My house is a bit messy and dirty at the mement so what can I do to clean to puppy proofe my house? I dont want him to die of eating something! And, i have a 12 year old brothr who I REALLY hate and i dont want him to hurt my puppy like he does to our 7 month old kitten! What can I say to Nathan to make him learn that it is a living thing and that he can’t hurt our pets? mom tells him off when he hurts the cat but he just keeps doing it anyway and dad doesn’t care he just laughs. dont think my family is bad though!

thanks

laugh and learn puppy

I’ve been to 3 different vets in the past year and while they have always been nice they just don’t seem to know how to communicate with dogs? and they don’t know why they do things? for example my last vet asked my dog to sit. Well she didn’t just ask… she said in a high pitched “HEY PUPPY SIT SIT SIT ? SHAKE STAY HEEL? hEHEHEHE still learning” Umm…. yeaah.. so I asked my puppy to sit once and she did. I wanted to burst out laughing at the vet because it was ridiculous LOL. And the other vet I went to a few months ago barely looked or talked to my dog at all and misdiagnosed her etc. it was a terrible visit. Bad vets I guess??

im a first time puppy owner. My puppy is 10 weeks old.I just got her last week.we’re training her to be a guard dog as well as a companion.Im so proud of her the ways shes learning so fast.I fell in love with her the minute i saw her.I love her so much already.shes already starting to be protective of me and follows me everywhere like a little puppy..hehe.she makes me laugh sooo muchhhh.Im just worried that when shes full grown im just going to miss those puppy years and wish she was a puppy again. Is it normal to feel that way and will it pass.

My family recently got a new puppy. We are in the process of training her, and though I feel it’s important to all be on the same page and be consistent, it seems like my partner and I are the only one who is sticking to the rules. Is it possible to effectively train the dog on my own even if the other members of the family (teenagers) don’t take part in the training and spoil the dog?
I’m hoping to train her to walk properly on a leash and learn some obedience commands like sit, stay, quiet, heel, come, fetch, crate-up and so on. I am trying to be consistent in the training and maintaining the pack leader role, but the kids laugh when she does something wrong and talk to the dog in a way that I feel encourages the bad behaviors.
My partner doesn’t seem to agree that it’s a big deal when they do this and thinks I am over-reacting when I get upset about it. Does anyone have any insight that could help us out?
Ok I am editing the details here. My wife’s kids are 18 and 14. They do not really take part in the discipline of the puppy. That has been mainly myself and my wife. My step-kids were only two years younger when I came into the picture, so there isn’t that life-long parent/child relationship. I can ask things of them but they will or won’t listen depending on their moods (teenagers). It’s not as simple as them listening to my rules.
We discussed getting a puppy and the responsibility of it prior to getting her. That didn’t seem to make a difference.
I appreciate the answers already, though they are all pretty different.
I’d like to come to a point where the dog is well trained. The crate training is coming along really well so far. I’ve done a lot of research on it. My question really, is is it possible for a dog to turn out to be well trained if only one member of the family is training her and the others spoil her and don’t help correct behavioral problems?

laugh and learn puppy

We just got a new pug puppy. (only 7 weeks old) My daughter seems to really like the puppy and laughs when she’s being chased by her. But my daughter (almost 19 months) is obviously still learning how to play correctly with the puppy.
At first my daughter was really gentle. Lightly petting (not patting) the puppy. We praised her for being gentle. But now she’s patting and grabbing the puppy by the ear and once she even pushed the puppy out of the way. (of course we kind of expect this behavior are right there to make sure no one gets hurt) I tell my daughter ‘no’ when she’s being too rough and try to show her the correct way to play, but I think she’s getting confused. She stops what she’s doing and sometimes will get upset or just looks confused and walks away. How do I teach her to be gentle without discouraging her to play with the puppy all together? My daughter has been a little slow with the talking. She can’t really tell us how she’s feeling. But I think she does mostly understand what we tell her. I just need a better way of teaching her. Any suggestions?
